The East Jutland machine specialist establishes a subsidiary in Houston, Texas, and introduces crane-free “uptower” repair solutions that can cut costs by up to 80 percent compared to traditional component replacement.

VEJLE – 21 September 2026 – East Jutland wind service expert CNC Onsite is now launching an expansion into the North American continent with the establishment of a new U.S. subsidiary in Houston, Texas. The strategic growth journey is being accelerated in close collaboration with the public business promotion system, as the company has secured an export grant through Erhvervshus Sydjylland (Business Hub South Jutland). The funds will serve as commercial co-financing for the company’s targeted rollout and market penetration in the United States.

The co-financing from the Danish Board of Business Development’s export grant provides subsidies for private consultancy on go-to-market strategies and establishment in new markets. The formation of the new American company, CNC Onsite Inc., comes on the heels of a record year for the business, which in 2025 increased gross profit by 74 percent to DKK 58.7 million.

At Erhvervshus Sydjylland, the process is seen as a step in the company’s efforts to enter the American market:

“We are pleased to be able to contribute to CNC Onsite’s expansion in the USA. Targeted strategic initiatives support the company’s visibility in the complex North American market and pave the way for the vital, long-term business relationships that will ensure international success for companies,” says Jørgen Fuglsang Bruun, Business Developer at Erhvervshus Sydjylland.

Solving a Critical American Infrastructure Bottleneck

The rollout on the American continent differs significantly from traditional wind turbine maintenance. CNC Onsite brings its specialized, crane-free “uptower” technology directly to American wind farms. Using proprietary, mobile machining equipment, CNC Onsite’s technicians perform complex repair and maintenance tasks—including repairs to yaw gearboxes, rotor locks, generator shafts, main shafts, and critical bolt connections—directly up in the nacelle.

This solves one of the largest logistical and economic bottlenecks in the American wind industry: the pronounced shortage of heavy mobile cranes, which traditionally hampers maintenance work and creates months-long, costly downtime. A traditional crane operation typically costs between USD 150,000 and USD 250,000 per task—excluding lost power revenue during downtime.

“By performing precision machining directly up in the turbine, we minimize both the need for cranes and heavy transport, as well as the prolonged turbine downtime that replacement of main components normally requires,” explains Søren Kellenberger, CEO and Partner at CNC Onsite. “We are experiencing significant demand from the USA, where we have already successfully executed the first projects.”

The independent consultancy CoralPoint, a merger partner with the advisory firm Brinckmann, confirms the strong market demand.

“Our market analyses show that traditional repair methods represent an enormous economic burden for American operators,” says Carsten Brinck, Senior Partner at CoralPoint and founder of Brinckmann. “The USA represents a significant market for specialized services within wind turbine maintenance. With a large and increasingly mature installed base, operators are placing greater emphasis on solutions that can reduce downtime, lower costs, and extend the lifespan of existing assets.”

CNC Onsite’s mobile machines are fully modular and are transported up into the turbine via standardized internal lifting systems, where CNC-controlled processes repair damage that previously required complete disassembly of the turbine. Particularly the repair of worn yaw gearboxes and wear on blade bushings is a rapidly growing challenge at mature American wind farms.

A cost saving of up to 80 percent for uptower repairs has already been documented in the European market, and the economic case is expected to be even stronger in North America due to pronounced equipment dispersion and high mobilization fees for heavy cranes.

The new office in Houston represents a long-term capital commitment to the North American market. CNC Onsite will initially station Danish specialists, alongside active recruitment of local American technicians, to build a permanent, national service team on the continent.

About CNC Onsite

CNC Onsite, founded in 2012 and headquartered in Vejle, Denmark, designs and delivers mobile machines for high-precision machining within the wind turbine industry, including offshore foundations.

The machines are built flexibly according to the company’s own “building blocks” method, making it possible to tailor solutions to a wide range of tasks.

The company serves both onshore and offshore wind turbine projects and offers, among other things: machining of steel flanges, specialized repair services for yaw gearboxes, rotor locks, generator shafts, bearing housings, and threaded holes, removal and replacement of worn or damaged bolts, as well as repair of threaded bushings in the root of wind turbine blades.

CNC Onsite operates with ISO 9001, ISO 14001, and ISO 45001 certifications and is a privately owned Danish company. www.cnconsite.dk
