Startup Showcase: Soletair Power – Capturing CO2 for a Healthier and Greener Future

The increasing levels of atmospheric carbon dioxide (CO2) are a major contributor to climate change. Finnish startup Soletair Power aims to address this problem by capturing atmospheric CO2 utilizing buildings’ ventilation systems. Their innovative technology not only reduces CO2 emissions but also leads to increased human productivity and healthier indoor environments.

Direct Air Capture and Power-to-X

Soletair Power was founded in 2016 and operates in the fields of Direct Air Capture (DAC) and Power-to-X. Their technology captures CO2 from the air utilizing building ventilation systems, which results in low building emissions and improved indoor air quality. This CO2 can be stored or transported and used as a raw material for industrial applications, including the production of synthetic fuels.

Improving Human Productivity and Health

High levels of CO2 can cause dizziness, tiredness, and sleepiness, leading to reduced cognitive function and productivity. Soletair Power’s integration of DAC technology into buildings leads to CO2-lean air, which can improve humans’ cognitive function. A study by Harvard University found that improved indoor air quality can increase human productivity by up to 11%.

Partnerships and Recognition

Soletair Power has partnered with industry leaders, including Wärtsilä and Q Power, to create innovative solutions for reducing CO2 emissions. Their first demonstration unit of Power-to-X for Dubai Expo 2020, created in partnership with Wärtsilä and Q Power, can produce synthetic methane from the captured CO2 from buildings. This innovative solution has been recognized for its potential to revolutionize the way we think about carbon capture and storage.
