Startup Showcase: Ampelmann – Revolutionizing Offshore Personnel Transfer

Ampelmann, the high-tech offshore personnel transfer company, is transforming the way people access offshore structures. Founded in 2008 as a spin-off of the Delft University of Technology, Ampelmann has quickly become a leading innovator in offshore access solutions. The company’s core technology is the Ampelmann system, a motion compensation platform that allows for easy, fast, and safe access from a moving vessel to offshore structures. With a doubling of its fleet every year since 2008, Ampelmann currently operates 40 systems worldwide, enabling the safe transfer of personnel from various types of vessels to offshore oil & gas platforms, offshore wind turbines, FPSO’s, and all other fixed and floating structures at sea.

Revolutionizing Offshore Personnel Transfer

The Ampelmann system is revolutionizing offshore personnel transfer. Before the Ampelmann system, personnel transfers were often performed by helicopter or crane, both of which can be dangerous and expensive. The Ampelmann system offers a safer, more efficient, and cost-effective solution to personnel transfers. The motion compensation technology allows for easy and safe transfer from a moving vessel to offshore structures, even in rough sea conditions.

The Ampelmann System

The Ampelmann system comes in two models, the A-type, and the E-type. The A-type is the base model, with 2m stroke cylinders and gangways of 20 and 25m maximum reach. The E-type, with 3m stroke cylinders, can carry up to 100 tons of payload. It can be fitted with standard A-type gangways and client-specific gangway and crane types reaching to a maximum of 65m. Both models provide a stable platform for personnel transfers and are designed to withstand extreme sea conditions.
